River Oaks Doors

One of our high-end projects has just been completed at Houston’s premier residential high rise, The Huntington, and the results are striking.

It was a complicated build, but the results were well worth it.

The 21 st floor condo, located in River Oaks, already had two immense walls of 9-foot tall windows looking out over the Houston skyline. So when the designer (who is also the homeowner) wanted to put a wall of decorative doors in front of windows, we were a little perplexed.

Putting doors in front of windows sounded counter intuitive, but the designer’s vision turned out spectacular.

Walking into the picture-perfect condo, visitors are now greeted by the same large windows but with an architectural flare. Set just inches from the window, we built the large poplar doors with Argent metal bars running through the center to give the whole area another dimension. Matching transoms above the doors round out the unusual feature. The two large walls of new doors are actually like frames of a regular door and have no glass.

Looking at the photos, you’ll notice the doors and transoms have precise 1/8 inch reveals around them, making them stand out.

The homeowner/designer searched for weeks trying to find the right hardware, finally settling on antique-colored Cremone bolts that latch.

The owner of this particular Huntington condo didn’t stop with the panoramic windows. She also wanted custom sliding doors built over the glass doors that lead out to an attached patio.

These doors were made of beautiful Louisiana Cypress featuring two different glass patterns, Seavue on the outer panes and Bamboo as the center piece.

Our millwork team visited The Huntington a number of times to make sure such a difficult job would only have to be done once. The center glass is shaped like a stop sign and is surrounded by six separate glass panes. The design features thin “muntin bars” where we had to carefully place the panes like pieces in a puzzle. There was no room for error.

After 2 months of attention to detail and fine tuning, the doors were installed and the customer was very happy with the results.
